IELTS Writing Task 2: Gas/Electricity

The International Community must act immediately to ensure that all nations reduce their consumption of fossil fuels e.g. gas and oil.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the modern day, fossil fuels become the driving force of our economic development. However, the irrational consumption of fossil fuels as energy resources have led to several problems all over the world. I strongly agree that all governments must promptly engage in global efforts to decrease dependents of these energy sources.

The world is now heavily dependent on fossil fuels as the primary source of energy and it causes to environmental damages that led to climate change. Global climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time and has already observable effect on our environment such as changed in rainfall patterns and droughts in different parts of the planet. The extraction of coal, oil and natural gas has endangered the environmental balance in some areas. Moreover, coal mining has jeopardized the lives of several mine workers. Hence, it is critically important for all governments to address the exacerbating world conflict in the use of fossil fuels in an immediate manner and to retire coal plants.

The discovery of fossils for energy purpose undoubtedly improved the quality of life of mankind. In the past several years, these types of fuels satisfy the energy demands of the entire world. They have substantially provided a great progress in industrial revolution that led to economic prosperity especially in the economies of oil and gas producing countries.  However, these sources of energy adversely affect public health and create serious environmental concerns. The rising sea levels is one of negative effect of fossils fuels. The melting of ice can cause oceans to rise, which impacts human settlements in low-lying areas.

To conclude, the use of fossil fuels has numerous upsides but extremely contributed in the global warming. In this context it is worth mentioning that the government efforts in boosting the use of renewable energy is plausible solution to combat the worldwide concerns of climate change.
