IELTS Essay Question:

In many countries, the amount of crime is increasing. What do you think are the main causes of crime?
How can we deal with those causes? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Answer:

Every country defined crimes in different ways, basically, crime in general can simply be defined as breach of one or more laws laid down by ruling authorities in respective countries. The growth of crimes are noticeable all over the world especially in third world countries. This essay will verify and highlight the causes that lead people to commit crimes and identify ways to reduce or prevent violent incidents in the future .

To start with, it is apparent that overpopulation is one of the biggest causes of crime across the world. The rise of crime rates are typically associated with a higher population growth in every areas especially when the growth is rapid like in developing countries. Unemployment is one of the major causes of socio-economic problems, the situation tend to encourage law breakers to commit not just minor crimes such as theft and robberies but also major criminal activities including murder, rape and kidnapping. People being triggered to commit crimes as means of livelihood due to lack of basic necessities. Crime rates, however, varies from place to place depending on the population on those areas.

Fortunately, some countries have identified and imposed policies to curb crimes caused from overpopulation. They have pointed out possible causes that triggered criminals to commit crimes and imposed penalties to violators. For example, those who commit an offense will be dealt accordingly and to impose hash penalties to law breakers. Governments for instance implemented policies to give tougher penalties against individuals who committed heinous crimes such as murder and rape. In other countries mostly from middle-east, the death penalty is implemented by hanging criminals in public places to instill fear amongst the people.

In conclusion, the rapid growth of crimes in densely populated areas developed an insecurity problems posed by the criminals. Policymakers and law enforcement agents are encourage to put an appropriate intervention programme to control criminality problem.
