In the past, people wore their traditional clothes and followed their culture. These days, most people wear similar clothes and therefore look very similar to one another.
Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?
Individual appearance gives clues to a person’s background and greatly contributed to the wearer’s identity. Wearing a traditional dress is like presenting your culture to the world. However, The modern fashion tend to embrace individual uniqueness and this is beneficial to people. This essay will discuss both sides of the arguments and further elaborate my stance on this issue.
Firstly, wearing fashionable dress inspired by the western influences can boost confidence and catch the attention of many people. Being fashionable is a great way to create a statement of someone’s personality, it provides an advance idea of who is wearing it. For example, when somebody enter the room the physical appearance is one of the first thing will strike to people. Furthermore, t-shirt and jeans are now the most widely use clothing that appeal to people of all ages. These outfits are soothing and comfortable to move. Hence, the current trend is a positive development to the society.
In the opposite, wearing traditional clothes allows people to deepen their understanding to its cultural roots. It also reflects the cultural heritage of an individual. In Saudi Arabia for instance, in some public places, someone can easily recognize the nationality of a person from the clothes they are wearing as the design and cut are distinctive. Although, wearing national costume will always reveal the human’s diverse origin but in today’s modern era, people puts more emphasis in comfort and individuality.
To conclude, wearing national dress is often an ostentatious way to strengthen unity among cultural groups . However, the modern fashion for young generation makes them feel relaxed and confident. In my opinion, people can still follow the modern fashion but should not discard the traditional clothes which makes them unique from other nationalities.
