IELTS Writing Task 2:

Nowadays, many families move to different countries. Some people think that children gain many benefits from this while others consider it to be hard for a child to move to a foreign country.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Answer:

In recent years, more and more families are inclined to migrate to other countries for so many reasons. While it is true that most children will thrive and enjoy their new home, others, on the other hand has an opposite experiences. In my opinion, though migration can negatively affects the structure of the family but it also offers a new opportunities for children. This essay will review the benefits and drawbacks that young migrants may face while settling into their new place.

To start with, moving to a new country presents greater opportunities for children. Most migrant children are came from poor countries and through migration they will have the opportunity to access high quality education and social services in their host countries. For example, developed economies has better education system which will serve as a firm foundation for every individual’s success. On a similar note, some destination settlements offers favorable social right to migrants such as child health care rights. Most developed countries are obliged to provide children the highest attainable standard of health services through best insurance coverage. Thus, young people will have an opportunity to flourish in their individual field of interest.

Conversely, however,  migration can be a challenging experience for these children. In the past, many migrant adolescents have experienced discrimination and language barrier in the country of settlement.  In school for instance, children of immigrants may face critical remarks about their accent, looks, or use of native language. Some of them has the chance to have little knowledge of English language. As a result, classmates might laugh at them when they struggle in expressing their thoughts in English.  Naturally, these issues will have a negative effects to young learner’s academic performance.

To conclude, migrating to other countries might have a good impact to children in the later years. However, young learners has to deal with societies inequality and intolerance in the early stage of relocation. From this perspective, once children overcome the initial hurdle, they will become much braver and more resilient for the rest of their lives in their new home.
