More and more students are choosing to study at colleges and universities in a foreign country. Do the benefits of studying abroad outweigh the drawbacks?

Essay Response:

Many students nowadays are entice to go abroad to become an international student. Some of them think that obtaining an international degree certificate has tremendous advantages than getting a degree in their own country. In this essay, I will discuss why I believe that the benefits of studying abroad outweigh its identified drawbacks. 

Attending university abroad has a number of advantages for most students. The time and financial investments spent on this endeavor seem to have a huge impact in defining young people’s future career choices. For example, by enrolling in other country, student will have a chance to meet and experience living in a multicultural environment. This is a great opportunity to honed their language skills that are necessary in establishing international careers. Another benefits of studying outside of someone’s own country is that some host countries will let new graduates to take up jobs after completion without any restrictions. Therefore, many young individuals will have an opportunity to gain international work experiences that can help increase their future employability. 

Pursuing studies in a foreign county, however, can be a challenge to most young people. Many international students tend to suffer cultural transitions and excessive feelings of homesickness. Cultural transition for instance, adjusting to a new culture can be a difficult process especially during a time that the student encountered an unfamiliar situation. Further, some students experience missing home, missing the time spent with the whole family and friends. However, students can still benefits from these experiences. Spending time in the new culture may lead to appreciate the differences and similarities in both cultures. Similarly, living away from parents will help them grow independently. Some of them will learn to manage their own schedule, budget and household chores. 

In summary, studying and living abroad can help students learn important skills that are essential in this competitive global workforce. Although, there are also pitfalls for students who choose to pursue international studies but the benefits of obtaining a college degree overseas exceeded the drawbacks.
